Back Tomorrow

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 25, 2008, 11:27 PM
I'm going to be boarding my flight home at 1pm tomorrow. I'll be back in Utah at maybe 3 pm or something. I had a fun vacation this month, but I'm really ready for this all to be over, and me to get back to work next month. I really need some structure back in what I do. I find myself getting too lazy without something to keep me working.

I managed to fully finish off an EVE online Fan Picture. I'm really satisfied with it. It just looks awesome.

I also ate at the Cafe from Top Gun, and toured a number of ships in San Diego Harbor with my Uncle, including the HMS Surprise, an old Russian 1950's submarine, and the USS Midway. Awesome.

And now for something completely different!

I hate TV. It is dumb, and mindless, and pointless. This being said, I've had an unhealthy amount of it over the last week. Its this kind of morbid fascination if I could find GOOD TV at some point.

...

Failure. I have resorted to Family Guy and a TV Channel that specializes in shows like Cops, and other police shows. The end times must be near.

Back on the Ground

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 20, 2008, 2:04 PM
I'm now officialy back in the US, but not off vacation. I've got another half week before I get back to my own computer. I've got like 5 half finished pictures that I need to get around to finishing. I just kept starting them. I've got so many ideas that I can't put them all down. I think thought I"m going to head down the road of EVE Online fan art for the next little bit. It will help my design and perspective skills, I hope. I've just been surrounded and swamped by EVE Online fan art, fan videos and other art, and it's really got me feeling like I should apply my artistic talents to that community.

I'm Jetlagged to hell. I haven't slept normally since I've gotten back to the states. That 16 hour time change from Japan is brutal. It's getting better though. Slowly.

I could spend another twenty Journals describing my trip to Japan, but I just don't feel like taking the time right now, or even putting that kind of description into a Journal.

Camping

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 8, 2008, 2:50 PM
Got back from the camping trip last night. Or in the USA's case, this morning =P. HOLY CRAP LOTS OF FUN! Chiho planned the whole thing, and we started off going to what they call a 'rest stop'. These are -not- like rest stops in the USA. These rest stops are multi-story buildings that have arcades, food shops, clothing shops, and all kinds of vending machines. They had a game there I could only describe as 'Drummer Hero'. It plays like guitar hero, except you smack big old Japanese drums for controllers.

We got out to the camp site. I use the term liberally. Imagine camping in a local park, with little houses to sleep in, and showers and bathrooms. You can put up tents, but they seriously had little houses for you to sleep in. It rained in the morning, and we packed up the whole camp in the rain. Rain here isn't bad though. its actually very gentle. Not only that, but its warm, and so you don't feel cold.

feeling a lot better now. BTW, in Japan, people expect you to have your own tissues. Don't barrow from total strangers.

Also, no mater what Anime's tell you, and despite having English classes, Don't expect anyone to know English. The average Japanese person speaks English like most people speak Spanish. They can murder hello, and that's about it. It's cute to hear them try though. I'm trying to learn some Japanese.

I met this guy called Heday on the trip too. Coolest guy EVAR.

We went to see a castle on the return trip. Way cool. It was a smaller castle, but still quite cool. Three stories, and the rooms were mostly taken up by the stairs, but still looked quite impressive. Probably hard to break into too.

I rode in a car the whole way too. Japanese cars are extreemly thin, and really can only seat two people next to eachother, but they make some very long cars that can fit like 8 (Japanese) people in them. I might go into Akiabara (sp?) this week. Train rides to Tokyo are actually rather cheep. its something like 300 yen ($3).

I wandered around the local shopping district here in Yokohama. Its amazing how much stuff you can find in such a small area. Several anime stores. Anime is pretty pervasive here. You can find it just about everywhere.

Anyway, sister has woken up, and I need to pee, and shower.

Stranger in a Strange Land

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 6, 2008, 11:02 AM
I landed in japan 12 hours ago. This country is so damn quiet! When I got off the plane It was so empty, and so quiet that I had thought I walked off into the moments before a nuclear detonation, and everyone was hiding in bombshelters or something. Pretty much no one here speaks a lick of English. Although, I have yet to be in younger places in Tokyo like Harijuku. There are plans to go camping today (its 2:30 AM over here, I"ve got some jet lag.) and I hope to go hang out with some locals that my brother-in-law knows. They DO speak English, mostly.

The sky here is very creepy. Its so light up that there is no black night sky. its more of this murky sludgy brownish color and there are certainly no stars.

I don't reccomend japan for people who don't like hot and humid. Its the middle of the night and I'm sweating still... I'm midly sick, but nothing to panic over. just a little conjestion. It should clear up before sunday.

Everything is so small here. Its not just the width and the depth. The ceelings are lower too. the door ways are only six feet tall or something (compare that with the USA's 7 ft.) I barely clear the doors at 5'8". Japan, not for tall people. Its also not for wide people. the stairs I walked up to my sister's apartment barely fit my suitcase and me, SIDEWAYS. I don't think I can describe just exactly how small this country is. Think of a one story house in the US, right? now imagine that a vending machine is the same size. yeah... Even the water bottles are half size. and still cost a dollar. things can get expensive, fast here.

The flight was long and disgusting too... ugh, I don't think its humane how little leg room they gave us... I got smashed in with a bunch of old people too. all they did was read, and talk about where they came from, which was a boring place that I can't remember. anyway, hopefully next time I'll get stuck with some younger people on the flight back (NOT BABIES EITHER!) and get a chance to talk on the way back. Ten VERY long hours.

Trying to get my zen to charge over here... not working. oh god, I hope I don't have to fly back without MUSIC! >.<
